Ambience is atmosphere. It is the feeling evoked by a place. It is flavor – who would confuse New Mexican cooking with Spanish or Tex-Mex? It is scent – say, of roasting chiles. It is sound. It is architecture. It is lighting.
Ambience is identity.
Look down San Francisco Street toward Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. What lighting says “Santa Fe” to you? The golden-amber candle lighting of the Cathedral? The dull-white street lighting of the adobe walls on the right? The blue-white walkway lighting to the left?
