What is IPRA?

“IPRA” stands for Inspection of Public Records Act. It is a New Mexico State law [NM Stat § 14-2 (2019)] that exists to ensure that all citizens have access to almost all public records in state and local government.

What is an IPRA Request?

An “IPRA request” is a request made to the state, a state agency, or a local municipality to produce public records. IPRA requests must be responded to in three business days, and – unless the request is overly burdensome – all records requested must be produced within two weeks of the request.
